Lighted Lucite Signs
After reading the Glowing Display Make Weekend Project, I felt inspired to create my own display. With a strand of LED Christmas tree lights, Lucite sheets, and a converted CNC mill, I set to work...
Each sign is lighted by 3 green LEDs mounted in the bottom aluminum U channel and powered by 2 AA batteries. They are quite bright and make good night lights.
A view of the bottom reveals the AA battery holder encased in the poplar wood base with a small SPST push button switch on the back to turn the sign on/off.
The painted poplar base has a decidedly plastic look and feel to it. I estimate the signs should be good for 100+ hours of lighting before the batteries give out.
They look pretty good even without the LEDs turned on.
Google Sketchup drawing used during the design. The lettering was exported for use on the CNC mill to create the Lucite portion of the sign.
